We may be a week past St. Patrick’s Day, but for those who have that luck of the Irish in their blood and heart, it’s never too late to jump into the fun and mythic culture of Ireland in your next TTRPG! Here are some of the top Irish/St. Patrick’s Day inspired TTRPGs to try/preorder!

- Beyond the Woods is a game of exploration and survival set in a dark fantasy world inspired by Irish folklore. You and your allies must gather what supplies you can carry and venture into the unforgiving lands of Tír Nascath. Beyond the Woods brings an old school feel to 5th edition and allows you to play a classic hex-crawl exploration or “West Marches” style campaign using the 5e rules. You will explore Tír Nascath hex-by-hex, tracking your progress by placing stickers on the beautifully illustrated map as you venture further and further beyond the woods.

2. Banish the Snakes is a solitaire and/or cooperative game that simulates Ireland in the 5th century, while the Roman Empire was collapsing in the west and Ireland was turning to the Christian religion. Players represent Saints- Patrick and others (up to six of you) who set out to convert the pagans on the island. You must work as a team to convert the people of Ireland before the barbarians completely overwhelm Britain- if you fail, the Irish will not be able to save Civilization in the following centuries!
3. A post by 3 Wise DMs (See our interview with them here!) about how to add some St. Patty’s Day flavor to your games! They present Six different encounters ideas such as setting, characters, and conflicts.
4. Want something a little more like a physical game? Check out Redshirts 2: Leprechauns Revenge, an expansion of the Redshirts card game.
5. Of course, this may require a bit of extra work, but Irish folklore and history is RICH with magical creatures and fantastic events which any GM can modify and cultivate for their needs within their RPG. Want to add a leprechaun NPC? No copyright on that! Ever hear of the curse of the blarney stone? Make that the focus of your players’ next mission! Just do a bit of digging (online or at your local library!) and let your imagination take you to the end of the rainbow. Maybe you’ll find some TTRPG gold!
